In 1909, Danish explorer and Captain Ignar Mikkelsen organized an expedition to Shannon Island in eastern Greenland to retrieve records of missing members of the ill-fated Danish expedition. After his first attempt failed, Everson was the only volunteer engineer to join him on his second attempt, leaving the rest of the crew behind.
