Gangubai Kathiawadi is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language biographical crime drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Jayantilal Gada and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film stars Alia Bhatt as the titular character while Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa play pivotal roles with Ajay Devgn featuring in an extended cameo appearance.
The film is loosely based on the true story of Gangubai Harjivandas, popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was documented in the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film depicts the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour.

Born into a wealthy family in Katya Ward, Ganga Haljibandas was aiming to become a Hindi actress. When she was 16, she fell in love with Ramnik Ral. They escape to Mumbai, and Ramnick promises Ganga her film career under the guidance of her aunt Sheila. But when he sold her to a brothel in Kamashipra for Rs 1000, her life was upset. So she had to force prostitution. After that, she became the powerful brothel Madam, Gambai Katiawadi, and won the elections in the area where she lived. Rahim Lara becomes her sworn brother after beating the gangster who raped her.
